Summary/Objective: This position is responsible for cleaning and preparing metal surfaces for painting. Removes dirt, grease, rust, scale, and other contaminants. Masks and tapes areas not requiring painting. Paint parts, equipment, and structural surfaces on interior and exterior of the ship components. Prep preservation material in accordance with Product Data Sheet. Inspects prepared painted areas and performs touch-up work as needed. Performs other related tasks as assigned.
Duties include, but are not limited to: - Set up tools and equipment at job site to conduct surface preparation
- Prepare surface to be painted
- Set up spray paint equipment to conduct coating application
- Mix paint materials according to PDS and apply coating to surface
- Hand paint and/or spray paint in designated areas, inspect work for touch-up
- Operate high reach equipment to prepare surface and to apply coating in elevated areas
- Perform housekeeping on assigned work areas, during and at completion of work
- Other tasks as may be assigned by Project Lead

Education / Experience Required: - Requires a High School diploma
- Require 1-3 years of brush and spray paint application, experience.
- Must be SSPC C-12 Certified
- Must be NPBI Certified
- Have an OSHA 10 certification or able to obtain the certification
- Must have ability to identify paint application requirements and equipment needed for coating application.
- Applicant must be familiar with NAVSEA, standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field of Coatings/Preservation.
- Applicants must be able to get respirator qualified and wear proper PPE throughout their work shift.
- This position supports a U.S. Government Contract whose terms requires SSR to staff it only with U.S. Citizens, be able to obtain gain access to shipyards (NAVSTA & DBIDS), undergo a background investigation and pass a drug screening.
Work Environment: This job operates in a shipyard environment.
Travel: This position may require the ability to travel.
Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The physical demands for this position are light to moderate. This position requires the ability to work in heights, climb stairs/ladders, lifting up to 50 pounds, work in standing, kneeling, and crouching position. Attention to safety critical.
