Job Description

Status : Regular, full-time, exempt

Annual Salary : $67,808 (Licensed Eligible Therapist – Two positions)

Annual Salary : $80,000 (Licensed Therapist – One position.)

Schedule : Monday – Friday (May include weekend and evenings hours up to 7:30 p.m.)

SBCS Corporation operates a 24/7 year-round confidential, emergency shelter program for victims of domestic violence and their children. Services include 24-hour emergency shelter, food, transportation, 24-hour crisis hotline, psychological support and peer counseling, referrals to community resources, and community education and outreach. The program also provides transitional housing, rapid rehousing, and other housing support for victims of domestic violence and their children.

RESPONSIBILITIES :

The Family Violence & Shelter Support Services Mental Health Associate under the supervision of the Program and Department Director is responsible for providing services to SBCS' clients and the community. Services will be in keeping with agency goals, objectives, mission, and style and provided within a team framework. Mental Health Associates provide counseling services to clients in the Family Violence Support Services and Shelter programs and assist with supporting the program's student interns.

  • Conduct intakes, assessments, and treatment plans with clients.
  • Provide psycho-education, crisis intervention, and safety planning services to clients.
  • Provide therapeutic case management, advocacy, and referrals to other services for clients.
  • Conduct strengths-based assessments and develop service plans with clients.
  • Participate in team meetings, trainings, individual supervision, and clinical group supervision.
  • Facilitate New Client Orientations on a regular basis.
  • Ensure flexibility of scheduling to meet the needs of SBCS' clients, including providing services on weekends and a minimum of one evening per week.
  • Complete all required case file documentation in a timely and routine fashion.
  • Facilitate coordination of services as well as contacts with other organizations and individuals, as necessary to effectively serve clients.
  • Conduct outreach and presentations to target population and other community members in order to effectively reach those in need of services.
  • Participation in special projects and activities, as related to agency's goals and objectives.
  • Attends required meetings and trainings.
  • Assist with the training and oversight of the program's student interns.
  • Adhere to agency and County client confidentiality, HIPAA, and mandated reporting policies.
  • Assist with implementing contractual and programmatic components.
  • Maintain a minimum caseload based on program needs.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Program Director and/or Director.

  • Master's degree in psychology or related field
  • Must be Licensed or Licensed eligible (with a registered intern number) by the California BBS as an MFT or MSW.
  • Maintain an active MSW/MFT intern number or license with BBS.
  • Minimum of 1- 2 years of experience in child, youth and family services field.
  • Experience in the areas of individual, group, and family counseling.
  • Ability to work with a diverse population, possess cultural competency, and maintain appropriate boundaries with clients.
  • Experience in working with families impacted by domestic violence.

Condition of Employment

  • Employment may be conditioned upon satisfactory completion of certain background clearances which may include a Department of Justice criminal background check requiring my fingerprints (Live Scan), screening through the National Sex Offender Public Website, drug test, tuberculosis (TB) test, and such additional clearances as may be required under the program.
  • Candidates/employees who have received a conditional offer of employment will be required to undergo testing for controlled substances, in accordance with the County of San Diego's drug and alcohol policy and the federal Controlled Substances Act.
  • Candidate is required to have reliable transportation; therefore, the candidate must successfully complete a motor vehicle history check. Candidate must also possess and maintain a current valid California driver's license and valid auto insurance policy.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Lifting: Raising or lowering an object from one level to another (includes upward pulling) 25-50 lbs.
  • Walking: Position requires ascending or descending stairs using feet and legs. Frequently goes between bottom and top floors.

  • Pulling: Exerting force upon an object so that the object moves toward the force (includes jerking)
  • Climbing: Ascending or descending stairs, using feet and legs or hands and arms. Body agility is emphasized.
  • Balancing: Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing, crouching.
  • Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist, requiring full use of the lower extremities and back muscles.
  • Handling: Seizing, holding, grasping, turning, or otherwise working with hand or hands. Fingers are involved only to the extent that they are an extension of the hand.
  • Finger Movement: Picking, pinching, or otherwise working primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand or arm as in handling.
  • Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Talking is important for those activities in which workers must impart oral information to clients or to the public, and in those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.
