What is the opportunity?

The Communications Manager for RBC Capital Markets’ Global Markets business in the United States will lead communications, internal & external, for the U.S. Research, and broader U.S. Global Markets business lines. They will contribute positively to RBC’s external image in the U.S., with a particular focus on the U.S. Research, U.S. Global Markets businesses, through creating and executing proactive, strategic media plans and tactics. The manager role will provide thoughtful and strategic communications counsel to the U.S. Head of Research and RBC Capital Markets analysts and strategists in the U.S., and local U.S. Global Markets leaders.

What will you do?

  • Create, develop and execute strategic internal and external communications plans for RBC Capital Markets, focused on but not limited to the firm’s U.S. Global Markets businesses, serving as a strategic advisor to senior leadership and aligning with business goals.
  • Source and execute top-level media opportunities in print and broadcast media to maximize the value of our Research investment. 
  • Position RBC Capital Markets as a thought leader in its sectors of expertise by promoting research content and white papers.
  • Run media training sessions to build out the U.S. Global Markets pool of spokespeople.
  • Build relationships with key broadcast outlets through networking meetings, and become the de facto go-to person for all RBC-related broadcast opportunities in the U.S. Will be responsible for booking and organizing TV appearances for RBC’s analysts.
  • Source and execute top-level print media opportunities and build strong relationships with important industry reporters.
  • Mitigate issues as they relate to our U.S. Global Markets platform by developing communications strategies and statements (personnel, regulatory).
  • Contribute meaningfully to our social media channels by leveraging Research content and media clips. Serve as global approver for social media posts to maintain brand and messaging consistency.
  • Lead the communications effort surrounding our key U.S. industry conferences and arranging for media to attend/cover our conferences.
  • Primary contact for U.S. PR agency.
  • In partnership with Marketing, build the digital and social presences of key U.S. Global Markets leaders.
  • Generate content for RBC Capital Markets’ intranet (CM Web) and run point on U.S. Global Markets internal communications and announcements.
  • Support the development and strategy of Diversity initiatives at the firm.
  • Contribute to the success of the overall goals of the Brand, Communications and Citizenship group.

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

  • 5+ years of relevant corporate communications experience, PR firm or financial services/professional services firm preferred
  • Media relations experience with top tier publications
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to manage large personalities
  • Outstanding writing skills
  • Ability to work long hours, operate under intense pressure, and rapidly respond to urgent media inquiries/deadlines
  • Attention to detail

The good-faith expected salary range for the above position is $80,000-135,000 depending on factors including but not limited to the candidate’s experience, skills, registration status; market conditions; and business needs. This salary range does not include other elements of total compensation, including a discretionary bonus and benefits such as a 401(k) program with company-matching contributions; health, dental, vision, life and disability insurance; and paid time-off plan.
