Job Description

Manhattan Institute for Policy Research (MI) is a community of scholars, journalists, activists, and civic leaders who are united by a shared commitment to advancing economic opportunity, individual liberty, and the rule of law in America and its great cities. MI is independent, creative, and bold, and we are seeking a like-minded Database Manager to join our Development team.

The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, highly organized, tech-savvy, a creative problem-solver, and will value the crucial role that data integrity plays in an organization’s success. Experience in fundraising is a plus.

Responsibilities

The database manager’s primary role is to ensure timely entry of contributions, maintain accurate information, and provide a smooth-functioning data system for MI’s Development team. This position reports to the Associate Director of Development Operations. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Processing gifts and pledges.
  • Building and exporting queries and reports.
  • Creating and updating donor records that track contact information, cultivation activities, solicitations, and upcoming tasks.
  • Distributing weekly reports to the development team and senior staff.
  • Liaising with the marketing, events, Adam Smith Society, City Journal, and operations teams to handle any database-related requests.
  • Assisting with developing and maintaining database automations.
  • Assisting with acknowledging and receipting gifts.
  • Ensuring overall data health and working collaboratively to address data-related issues.

Qualifications

  • Exceptional attention to detail and strong organization skills.
  • The ability to meet daily deadlines while prioritizing longer-term projects.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Passion for the principles of opportunity, individual liberty, and rule of law. Strong philosophical alignment with MI’s policy priorities and a keen interest in supporting and extending MI’s work.
  • Experience using Raiser’s Edge, Virtuous, or other fundraising data systems preferred.
  • Interest in emerging technologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to use the highest levels of discretion and confidentiality.
  • Fundraising experience a plus.
  • Bachelor’s degree required.

The ability to work out of the Manhattan Institute’s Manhattan office is preferred, though remote options will be considered. Financial support is available for new hires moving to New York City.

The salary range for this position is $60,000/year to $90,000/year.  The salary offered to a candidate will depend on skills, experience, and education.
