Child and Adolescent Staff Therapist

Description: The Samaritan Center () is a non-profit counseling and integrative wellness center. Our mission: We heal hearts, provide hope and enhance lives with a holistic approach to all ages, whole families, and the military community. Our Holistic Hope for Heroes program provides counseling, Certified Peer Services, Case Management, and Integrative Medicine Services (acupuncture, herbal medicine, nutrition, Tai Chi) to veterans, service members, and their spouses and children. 

 

Samaritan Center is looking for an energetic, passionate licensed therapist to meet the following specific clinical needs of the agency:

  • To provide individual, group, and/or family counseling to children, with a focus on those under 6 years of age . The case load could be supplemented with youth above age 6, adolescents, and caregiver/parent clients, depending client/agency need
  • A desire and skillset in play and art- based interventions including but not limited to Sand Tray, Puppet Play, Therapeutic Games, other non-directive and directive approaches to work with children/adolescents, aged 4+. 
  • Provide workshops, groups, and/or community education on a variety of mental health-related topics.
  • An avid interest in exploring supervision towards the RPT credential. Supervision is available as a benefit of employment.

Currently, services are being provided in a hybrid model of both telehealth and in-person from our main office in Austin. Staff therapists are part of a clinical team and will participate regularly in case consultation and other required administrative activities. Samaritan Center takes a multi-disciplinary approach and our team consists of licensed therapists, licensed acupuncturists, and certified mental health peer specialists. Bilingual therapists and those with experience and interest in working with culturally diverse populations are encouraged to apply.

DUTIES

  • Reporting to the Clinical Director, a staff therapist may provide individual, group, and/or family counseling to child, adolescent, and caregiver/parent clients. Also requires a close working relationship with the Child and Adolescent Clinical Lead who is an LCSW-S, RPT-S.
  • Provides the number of agreed-upon clinical hours and maintains a clinical caseload.
  • Provide trauma-informed care and work with trauma-informed care partners in the community
  • Administer client services including: intake, assessment, treatment planning, and documentation via electronic record keeping.
  • Implement assessments to measure progress with therapy (GAD7, PHQ9, an outcomes measure, ACORN)
  • Reviews client record to determine the progress, effectiveness, and appropriateness of treatment services offered. Maintains current, accurate, and timely clinical documentation in accordance with state and federal law, professional ethics, and Samaritan Center policies.
  • Provide workshops and/or community education on a variety of mental health-related topics as needed.
  • Works with the administrative staff to collect fees when appropriate.
  • Maintains calendar in a timely manner and communicates with office staff when conflicts arise.
  • Attend and participate in weekly staff requirements: meetings, consultations, and trainings.
  • Will participate in community outreach and self-marketing as necessary.

 

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Requires a Master’s or doctoral degree in Social Work, Marriage Family Therapy, Counseling, Psychologist, or equivalent. Fully licensed preferred (LMFT, LCSW, LPC, Ph.D.) though those provisionally licensed (LMSW, LPC-Associate, LMFT-Associate) and close to a year out from taking the licensure exam are encouraged to apply
  • Requires licensure in Texas at the time of hiring.
  • Preferred: Bilingual/Spanish speaking.
  • Required: Passion and skill set to work with children, adolescents, and families (children age 5+)
  • Experience in high-demand outpatient mental health settings.
  • Willingness to work with a blended caseload of community and children of military families (ongoing support and competency training is provided).
  • Willingness to provide spiritually integrated therapy; assess one’s use of spirituality as a resource and incorporate a client’s spirituality into counseling if requested. (Spiritually Integrated Therapy competency training is provided as part of onboarding and ongoing with annual training).
  • Knowledge and experience in providing therapy that is trauma-informed and evidence-based, included but not limited to TF-CBT, EMDR, TBRI, etc. Willingness to apply and learn a variety of seminal play therapy theories is preferred.
  • Ability to assess a client's therapeutic needs, establish a therapeutic relationship, and evaluate therapeutic outcomes.
  • Work cooperatively with an interdisciplinary treatment team.
  • Experience providing culturally sensitive treatment to individuals from diverse religious/spiritual, cultural, racial, sexual orientation, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Experience with an Electronic Medical Records system, as well as comfort with computers, Microsoft office, and various software applications.
